Pianist Behzod Abduraimov and North Netherlands Orchestra open CityProms
Pianist Behzod Abduraimov and the North Netherlands Orchestra (NNO) led by Per-Otto Johansson will open CityProms with Sergei Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto. This is one of Rachmaninov’s most popular pieces. Abduraimov: “Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto is very romantic, it is one of the favourite piano concertos of all time. The lyrical depth, expressiveness and perfect structure make it very exciting and moving.”
During the opening concert, Behzod Abduraimov will be playing Sergei Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto with the North Netherlands Orchestra (NNO), led by Per-Otto Johansson.
Alice Sara Ott and Camerata RCO
Another popular international artist is Alice Sara Ott, a Japanese-German classical pianist. She will be playing the 13th piano concerto by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with the Camerata RCO.
Over a thousand amateur musicians, dancers and singers will turn the city centre of Leeuwarden upside down during GRUTSK. During this huge festival you will be able to enjoy dozens of Friesian show bands, wind orchestras, choirs, big bands, percussion and dans groups. GRUTSK will be festively ended with an evening show on the main stage on the Wilhelminaplein. GRUTSK is part of the Never Ending Orchestra (NEO) and is organised in cooperation with OMF (organisation for music association Fryslân) and foundation Proud Event.
Podium for young talent
CityProms offers a podium to young talent every year. For instance, during the 48th edition of the Youth Orchestra festival on Saturday the 30th of June. Special guests during this edition are the Italian trumpetist Omar Tomasoni and the famous English brass band Youth Brass 2000. The audience will also be able to enjoy artists like violinist Diamanda La Berge Dramm who is winner of the Dutch Classic Talent Award and trumpetist Saleem Kahn, winner of the Friesian Emmy Award.

Come and enjoy the magical world of classical music from the 28th of June until the 1st of July. Performances will be on the main stage on the Wilhelminaplein and dozens of other locations in the city centre of Leeuwarden. CityProms is part of the main programming of Capital of Cultural 2018.
