Grutsk: gigantic HAFABRA & SHOW-festival at high level
The wind orchestras have always played an important part during CityProms. This year the sector will have an important podium during Grutsk: over 2018 amateur musicians, dancers and singers will turn the city of Leeuwarden upside down. During this mega-festival music lovers can enjoy performances by dozens of show bands, fanfares, choirs, dans groups and other artists.
During Grutsk it is supposed to make clear that people make music, dance and sing at a very high level in this province. The Friesian pride or ‘grutsk’ is the central concept to this. Johan Meesters, chairman of the Friesian music association OMF: “Cultural Captital is all about Mienskip (society). The music associations are in the middle of that Mienskip. We offer them a podium, a unique location. We want to put these associations on the map and surprise the audience.
Performances in the whole inner-city
In the morning orchestras, fanfares, ensembles and choirs will perform on the main stage and at pop-up spots in the city centre and Prinsentuin. In the afternoon a Leeuwarder Tattoo will perform on the Oldehoofsterkerkhof with different performances. Around six o’clock there will be a banner and flag march and marching and show bands will perform a show parade to the Wilhelminaplein starting from two locations. Grutsk will end off with an evening show on the main stage with performances from Elske DeWall, the ensemble Fuse, a mallet-ensemble consisting of 60 musicians, top brass bands and show orchestras, the NNJO and Iris Kroes.

Grutsk is a part of the Never Ending Orchestra. The organisation joins forces with CityProms. A big of the programme takes place on the main stage. Grutsk’s organisation is in the hands of the Friesian music association OMF and foundation Proud Event.
