North Netherlands Orchestra

In this anniversary edition, the North Netherlands Orchestra (NNO) will surprise CityProms’ audience with a special opera programme, together with the soloists Jannelieke Schmidt (soprano) and Felipe Gallegos (tenor). The NNO is the most versatile orchestra in The Netherlands. The NNO likes to introduce ‘new ears’ to symphonic music and so – as the Netherlands’ oldest professional symphony orchestra – keep an age-old tradition alive.

Conductors of the NNO

Since the 2015/2016 concert season Antony Hermus has been the regular guest conductor with the orchestra. Stefan Asbury is the Honorary Conductor and Michel Tabachnik is Conductor Emeritus. Prominent conductors such as Viktor Liberman, Jean Fournet, Han-Na Chang, Stefan Vladar, Alexander Vedernikov and Susanna Mälkki have performed with the NNO.

‘With us you experience classical music in a very intense way. The secret behind it? Experience the symphony orchestra live and see what that contact with the musicians and the audience does to you. Then you’ll feel it!’ Marcel Mandos, Artistic Director NNO’
